Local stylist moves up in fashion
2017年12月20日FROM UPSTYLES to cut and colours, one local hairdresser is moving up in the world after partaking in a lifetime opportunity to work with acclaimed fashion designer Debbie Schwenderling.
Emily Woodrow has been hairdressing for 10 years, but working on a professional photo shoot for Ruth Magazine was a big break in her career.
"It was so much fun... it was amazing to work with other stylists and do a fashion piece that was going to be published in a magazine,” Ms Woodrow said.
"That was the biggest impact for me - that we were going to be published and have our names in a magazine.
"The opportunity to do something in a regional area like this is amazing.”
Ms Woodrow was one of five upcoming hairdressers from around the Darling Downs who participated in the photo shoot in Toowoomba in August this year.
Working with professional models, photographers, fashion designers and stylists, Ms Woodrow said the experience was a career-changing experience.
She acknowledged Ms Schwenderling for her efforts to support hairdressers from regional areas who wanted to pursue a career in session styling.
"We were given a lot of freedom to create what we wanted and let our own style come through,” Ms Woodrow said.
Ms Woodrow said she still loves working behind the chair as a senior hairdresser at Hair Together & True Beauty in Rose City Shopping World, but she is looking to diversify her skills and branch into the fashion and photography world.
"I’m at the stage in my career where I want to move on and push myself beyond my limits and prove to myself that I can do this,” she said.
With a runway show on the cards for May 2018, Ms Woodrow is definitely on the right path, with big things to look forward to.
